Russian Deputy Governor Killed by Landmine in Kursk Region

Sergey Efremov, the deputy governor of Russia’s Primorsky Krai region, has been killed while returning from a battle in the Kursk region. His vehicle reportedly struck a landmine, causing a fatal explosion that also claimed the life of a Russian army officer.

Efremov, 51, had an extensive military background, having graduated from the airborne officers’ college in Ryazan. In June 2022, he established the volunteer unit “Tigers” to support Russian military operations. After spending some time back in Primorsky Krai, he rejoined the Tigers in August 2024, following increased Ukrainian military activity in the Kursk region.

Oleg Kozhemyako, governor of Primorsky Krai, praised Efremov’s dedication, highlighting his contributions to military operations and leadership. Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, described Efremov’s death as an irreparable loss, emphasizing his role in discussions on socio-economic development.

Efremov’s death marks a significant loss for Russian leadership and highlights the ongoing dangers faced by officials and military personnel in conflict zones.
